چکیده

We study the time evolution of a periodically driven quantummechanical system coupled to several reservoirs of free fermions at different temperatures. This is a paradigm of a cyclic thermodynamic process. We introduce the notion of a Floquet Liouvillean as the generator of the dynamics of the coupled system on an extended Hilbert space. We show that the time-periodic state which the state of the coupled system converges to after very many periods corresponds to a zero-energy resonance of the Floquet Liouvillean. We then show that the entropy production per cycle is (strictly) positive, a property that implies Carnot’s formulation of the second law of thermodynamics.

Investigation of the Slipping Wear based on the Rate of Entropy Generation

Wear is a complicated phenomenon caused by the relative movement of two contacting surfaces compressed together by a normal force. Prediction of the wear, in most cases, requires various experiments and microstructural characterization of the contacting surfaces. Mathematical models based on physical concepts could provide considerable help in understanding the physical behavior and hence the p...

t is possible to extract work from a quantum-mechanical system whose dynamics is governed by a time-dependent cyclic Hamiltonian. An energy bath is required to operate such a quantum engine in place of the heat bath used to run a conventional classical thermodynamic heat engine. The effect of the energy bath is to maintain the expectation value of the system Hamiltonian during an isoenergetic p...

Optimization of Finned-Tube Heat Exchanger with Minimizing the Entropy Production rate

A compact fin-tube heat exchanger is used to transfer current fluid heat inside the tubes into the air outside. In this study, entropy production and optimized Reynolds number for finned-tube heat exchangers based on the minimum entropy production have been investigated. As a result, the total entropy of compact heat exchangers, which is the summation of the production rate of fluid entropy ins...
